Book Review - The Half of Us by Cardeno C - ***** CC’s books are like crack Stars
It’s only a couple of months ago that I discovered Cardeno C, but already this author is totally part of my book reading world. When I get a new email to say another book is coming, I smile wide and look forward to a book that is easy to read, fun and full of banter, sexy and just well like crack. Because once I start reading, I don’t want to stop until the end. And then I sit there wishing I had more.
The Half of Us is no exception to this rule.
Our story starts with Jason, a heart surgeon on his way home from another brutal day in the office. Leaving work he heads to a bar with the aim of fucking his bad day out of his system.
Abe is out in the bar celebrating his birthday with friends. A bit of a homebody, he’s out of his element and certainly not looking for a random hook-up, he’s a relationship kind of guy.
However, when Jason approaches Abe, Abe throws his good boy persona away for a night and takes Jason back to his apartment.
What was a one night hook up, has a repeat performance a couple of months later, making Jason’s rule of no repeats a rule now that he has now broken.
With both guys breaking their rules to be with each other, just how far will they both go? Can something solid and permanent come of this, or will Jason run away at the first sign of commitment?
Add into this some great side characters of an ex wife and two children and you have a great recipe for drama.
I love CC’s characters, even if they have asshole traits, they manage to make you love them and that’s the case here with Jason.
Abe, well he’s just the sweetest manboy you could find and you want to instantly wrap him in your arms and protect him.
This book seemed to have even more hot sex scenes than normal, but I think it’s intrinsic to the storyline because it starts as a casual hook up and then gradually you see whether it become more. No complaints here in that regard. There is still plenty of story to tell and it’s wonderfully handled as usual.
Whilst there is a certain formula to CC’s stories (love story with a happy ending), what’s wrong with that - we all need a bit of happy in our lives, so for me it’s a five star read. I adored this book.
