Renee "Ren" Miller was five when her Dad left to go to the shops and never came back.
Left to grow up with a cancer riddled mother, things have never been easy for a teenager who had to be wise beyond her years. Then one day they lose the battle and she’s all alone.
Now twenty-two, Ren reluctantly goes to find her estranged father. He owns the down and out boxing studio, Beat, and Ren finds herself drawn to the ring. She thrives on learning a new way of fighting a life that kept kicking her down…instead of struggling against the current, she kicks it right between the legs.
Then one day, Ash Fuller, her Dad's star fighter comes back to town. Mysterious, handsome… Dangerous… Everything Ren doesn't need.
But he's got other ideas…
…and so does she

Review
Starting at the beginning we learn about Ren, a girl who has had a pretty rough time of it when her Dad walked out on her and her sick Mum, leaving Ren to care for her all alone.
As we are given Ren's back story we cant help but feel for her, a poor child so young with the weight of the world on her shoulders and no support.
Just before Ren's Mum dies she tells her daughter to go find her Dad. After burying her Mum, Ren sells up to pay for Mums medical bills and is left with very little and so decides to start her search.
She finds her Dad seemingly living a normal life running his Gym 'BEAT' - with a few fighters under his wing.
Her Dad allows her to stay in the 'storage cupboard' (a small room at Beat with a bed in it) rent free until she gets on her feet. Ren takes this amazingly well - personally I would be so angry and go out of my way to make Daddy dearest suffer under a whole heap of attitude.
Ren gets on with life as best she can making the most of what little she has - making friends and enemies along the way.
I don't want to give any more details of the story from this point on as it gets so interesting that I'm begging you read it for yourself. Go along on the journey with Ren as she turns from timid, uncertain and delicate to a lean mean, tough as nails leading lady with her very own unconventional Love story thrown in.
There are a whole bunch of characters which are fun an intriguing and some that will just make your blood boil with rage- all so important to the story that I couldn't imagine Beat without them there.
There are twists and turns, really steamy scenes and some that will leave you utterly gob smacked, all of which adding to the story keeping it engaging and addictive! I literally read the whole thing in one sitting because I didn't want to put it down.
It was the most raw and gritty book I have read in a very long time.
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
If hot and hard fighters with a side order of kick ass leading lady is your thing then what are you waiting for? This is the book for you!
I rate this book 4 stars!
